Maggie Grace is an American actress born Margaret Grace Denig in 1983. Her most well-known roles are Shannon Rutherford, a character on ABC's Lost series and Kim Mills from the Taken trilogy. Her birthplace was Worthington in Ohio. She was kicked out of school after her parents divorced to go into Los Angeles to live with her mother. It was a struggle to survive and was offered her first role in acting as Rachel's Room's main character. Her performance in the role of Martha Moxley, a 15-year-old victim of murder in the T.V. film Murder in Greenwich in 2002, earned her nominations for a Young Artist Award. In 2004, Grace was selected to portray Shannon Rutherford in the television show Lost in which she was a main actor for the first two seasons, and was awarded an award called the Screen Actors Guild Award shared with the ensemble cast. Leaving the series Grace would like to be as a film actress, and had starred opposite Tom Welling in The Fog in 2005. She starred as Kim Mills opposite Liam Neeson (both in Taken 2008) in Suburban Girl and The Jane Austen Book Club. She reprised the role in Taken 2 (2012) and Taken 3 (2014).She played the main character Alice in Malice in Wonderland a modern take on Lewis Carroll's novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace was Shannon on the finale and in two additional episodes. She was in 2013 for Season 6 of Californication. She plays Faith, a groupie who acts as a muse to the stars and catches the eye to Hank Moody (David Duchovny). She is a member of the Gyllenhaal family, she's the daughter and older sister to actor Jake Gyllenhaal. The career of her mother began when she was a teenager with small parts in a few films directed from her father. She also worked with her brother on the 2001 cult film Donnie Darko. Her subsequent roles included Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, both 2002 and Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal has received critical praise for her performances as the lead in Secretary (2002 the erotic romance drama), and Sherrybaby (606), both of which earned her Golden Globe Award nods. The year 2006 was the time she starred in several commercially successful films, such as World Trade Center. However it was her performance as Rachel Dawes that brought her more attention with The Dark Knight (2008). In 2009, she received a nomination as the best supporting Actress at the Academy Awards for her role of a single mom on screen in Crazy Heart. Then she appeared in dramas and comedies, including Nanny McPhee's Big Bang (2010) Hysteria 2011 and Won't Back Down 2012 The other roles she played were an agent in the action-thriller White House Down (2013), a Secret Service agent in the action-thriller White House Down (2013) as well as a singer in Frank (2014) as well as the title role in the drama The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). Gyllenhaal composed and directed her first feature film, The Lost Daughter in 2021. The thriller that dealt with psychological issues was awarded the Best Screenplay Award from the Venice International Film Festival. It was also nominated to the Academy Award of Best Adapted Screenplay.
